DM500HD Sound Issue

Dear Sirs,
I have bought a brand new DM500HD, everything works like a charm ... however several days ago i started hearing some low noise on the left channel only, I couldn't narrow it down since it appears every 5 - 6 min, its a "shshsh", and only for a second, but here is what i did conclude, it appears with some encrypted channels and some free channels (at least that what I could hear), I tried it both on the optical out and HDMI, and also with external amplifier and directly to TV, I also tried turning the AC3 Downmix on/off, I even went to changing Images, from original to [Moderator] Image is in violation of the Boardrules [/Moderator]
Regards

No Support for 3rd party images/software here, sorry. This is the official DMM Forum so only support for official DMM Software. Discussions about Softcams and Stuff like this are also not allowed here. Contact the guys who made your software, they also offer support for their images ...

Install the latest official DMM Image for your box:
http://www.dreamboxupdate.com/opendreamb…dm500hd/images/

If you then still have problems you can report it here ... as long as you use 3rd party images you will not get support here, in that case go the support forum of your 3rd party images and complain there ;)

hmm and you tested it on different devices like an AV-Receiver, TV etc? It's strange when this also happens on AC3 Sounds, because the box can not modify anything on the AC3 Signal, only do a "passthru" and send the digital signal from satelite directly to TV/AVR ... DownMix or Stereo/MPEG sound is a different story but if you also have this on digital AC3 Signal it's really strange ...

I doubt it's a software problem ... must be hardware related. Either your AV-Receiver / TV or the DM500HD :(

Is your TV also connected to your AVR? You could try to remove all other cables that are connected to your AVR / TV to find out if other devices cause this, but if really only the dreambox is connected to AVR or TV and you still have this strange sound, I would say something is bad with the hardware of your box ...

Well here is an update, i spent whole weekend trying every channel, from AC3 (Stereo and 5.1 Dolby) and MPEG, I have turned off downmix at first and turned it on (didnt make any difference to the weired noise) and tried same channels, what appeared to be that the problem is only with MPEG channels and some of them not all, also tried it with my yamaha reciever and sony TV still the same, with AC3 5.1 output hooked to the reciever its perfect nothing there, only with MPEG as i said and of course left channel, I hope its not a hardware issue since I bought it from Netherlands and I live in Middle east ;( , now what is connected to AV reciever is ofcourse the DM500HD (optical cable), my PC (also optical cable) and PS3 (HDMI), now i havent tried disconnecting any of them since the DM500HD is also connected to the TV through HDMI, i just turned off the reciever put some earphones directly to the TV and tested same channels

Sad to say, I have the same exact problem :( buzzing sound every 3-5 seconds on LEFT audio channel (MPEG or downmixed AC3). AC3 pass through is fine but only a few channels are AC3. I'm 100% sure it's DM500HD problem - I did many tests with my setup but always the same problem - with Onkyo AV receiver or with DM500HD connected to theTV set directly.

I alrady sold my DM800HD and was so happy to get DM500HD, now it seems to be a very bad decision and waste of money. I'll return my new DM500HD but am really sad since I don't know which receiver can I get, probably will wait for new HD models. Anyway, I feel really disappointed in Dream Multimedia :(

sad to hear that too, that someone else is facing the same problem, but at least now we can get a feedback if it is hardware related or software related !!!!

Hey,

maybe it would be a good idea to tell us with what services your audio-problems appears. :)
Another question: Do you have the same ploblem after recording the stream to hdd? If so, it would be a good idea to ask DMM if you can upload a piece of that stream to their server...

I do not have any audio-problems with my 500HD at all...

For example, the problem is clearly audiable on FTA channel OCKO, broadcasting at 23E, 12168 V, 27500, 3/4. But there are many more channels with this issue. It's easiest to notice this when you select LEFT channel only via Audio menu on Dreambox and put AV receiver in stereo mode. It doesn't matter if it's recorded or live, DM500HD clearly has problems with MPEG audio decoding.

I have to agree with jancz, since you can hear clearly if you have VIVA music channel on Hotbird 13E which is a free to air channel, i think Dr. best is trying to know whether the sound is shown when the channel is decoded or when its outputed, i ll try today and record from that channel and get back, although im pretty sure that its a decoding problem since it doesnt appear to be with all mpeg channels !!!

Actually I even tried playing a movie file that was not recorded on this DM500HD and the problem was also there.

But because of the fact that some channels tend to play fine (for example CNBC or CNN at 28E), I hope this can be fixed by software update.

Everything points to hardware issues. I have taken the receiver back to the store and am awaiting a refund. Honestly, I'm afraid to buy another Dreambox, even though I was extremely happy with DM800.

So I got a refund and decided to try another DM500 HD. At first it seemed OK since the repetitive buzzing sound on the left channel was gone but later the sound started to drop out entirely. The only option is to zap to another channel and back to get the sound again. Great, I'm taking this box back to the store tomorrow. What a waste of time.

Did you update image/firmware already to the latest experimental images from DMM?

If I remember right there was a bug in older drivers which can cause this sound drops !? But not sure ...

Of course I did. I have tried the latest experimental image as well as a couple of other non official images. All with the same result. After 2-5 minutes, the sound was gone (HDMI as well as optical).

I found one firmware image (Peter Pan) that fixed the audio dropouts on all channels at 23E and 28E. But then I set up my dish for Astra 19,2°E and then again, on some channels, the sound dropped out or got deformed for a short moment, repeatedly. I don't even know what to say any more.
