Opendreambox 1.6 issue with CIFS network
Hi there,
i'm compiling opendreambox-1.6 without issues, and the produced image works almost fine, but I have a network related issue.
When I try to read mkv or dvd iso from my network server (fat Linux server with Samba running on it, so I'm connecting with cifs), it shutters severely (but it works fine under opendreambox-1.5). The same media read out of the local hdd works fine. The cifs mount has been established using the networkbrowser.
I'm unsure if the issue lies in cifs or network , as I can ftp to the box at the 10 mbytes/sec.
Any help would be appreciated

I have justed tested with your compilation (just in case the issue was in my cdk) 1.6 based experimental-dm8000_20100305 out of dreamboxupdate does indeed have the same issue, so it's not my compil
Also worth knowing, I'm using wired connection, not wifi

Same issue here on cifs mount.
The performance of a cifs mount is below 1MB/s with OE1.6 images.
If i change the same mount to a nfs mount the performance is ~7,5MB/s.
Kann ich bestätigen, da sollten die Devs mal ein Auge drauf haben.

Kann ich auch bestätigen - es ruckelts bei cifs-streaming. Ein cp vom cifs-mount brauchte für 36 MByte 60 Sekunden => hatte nur ca. 0,6 Mbyte/s.
Eine Lokale Kopie des Filmes auf hdd läuft fehlerfrei - damit liegts nicht am Film.
Meine ftp-speed liegt bei 9500 kbytes/s upload, 11.500 kbyte/s download - Damit liegts nicht am Netzwerk.

Hier auch ruckelt es bei cifs. Ist nicht um an zu sehen. Habe meinen NAS auf nfs umgestellt und das gleiche. Kommen sogar die Spinner wenn ich Filme anschauen möchte.

Cifs, NFS, Festplatte und USB sind leider schnarchlangsam.
Bis auf die etwas schnellere Bootzeit, gibt es bisher nichts Gutes zu berichten.

Ich weiss ja nicht was ihr gemacht habt, aber ich habe gestern mal versuchsweise mit einer DM500HD einen HD-Sender über nfs aufgenommen und abgespielt. Konnte keine Ruckler oder andere Probleme feststellen.

cifs mounts vom server sind grotten langsam. versuche das nicht zu beschönigen. das hat noch jeder festgestellt.

NFS works, cifs doesn't, or at least not at any decent/workable speed. (hence the thread title saying cifs
)
Dass cifs langsam ist, mag ja sein.
Ich wollte nur denen wiedersprechen die plötzlich behaupten, dass das ebenfalls für nfs gilt, was aber definitiv nicht der Fall ist.

Dann hast du bestimmt nicht den automounter verwendet.
Da dauert es mitunter schon Ewigkeiten, bis überhaupt die Movieliste vom NFS-Server (dm7025)erscheint.
Das klappt nur halbwegs, mit Hardmounts über den Netzwerkbrowser, der aber hier nicht praxistauglich ist.
Mit meinem NAS, hab ich komischerweise keine Problme.
Einen Geschwindigkeitstest von HDD und USB hast du auch gemacht ?

Nah Floh....
nfs mit automount ist sehr langsam und ruckelt hier. Ausserdem kann nfs automount überhaupt kein zwei mounts an mit gleichen IP aber verschiedene Festplatten. Also klappt es überhaupt nicht mit (auch nicht ohne "udp"-Eintrag bei options):

NFS geht nicht gut und wenn nur 1 nfs gemountet ist, dann ruckelt die Wiedergabe und ist sehr langsam
vielleicht solltest du es mal mit 'tcp' versuchen.

Mit tcp hat es geklappt,danke. Aber mit recordings abspielen ist noch was falsch. Habe rausgefunden, allerdings hier, daß jetzt nur alte aufnahmen (auch oe 1.6 aber Woche alt) am ruckeln sind. Neue aufnahmen (von heute) scheinen jetzt gut zu gehen. Frage bleibt: warum alte aufnahmen ruckeln und können andere es bestätigen daß neue recordings jetzt gut sind.

Ich habe hier 4 mounts gleichzeitig mit dem Networkbroser (DM800) oder per 'auto.network' (DM500HD) und alle 4 funktionieren.
Oben das Beispiel eines Network-Browser-Eintrags in der automount.

Ich schrieb doch das es mit tcp geklappt hat. Aber jetzt das ruckeln noch...
Wenn die alten Aufnahmen ruckeln, dann sind die wohl so gespeichert worden.
Ich nehme an, wenn du diese mit dem PC abspielst, dass die dann auch ruckeln.
